LBFTA Holds Beach Clean Up at Binongko Beach-Labuan Bajo

Last Friday morning, September 12, 2025, we kicked off something meaningful: the Clean Tourism Movement (Gerakan Wisata Bersih/GWB) at Binongko Beach, Labuan Bajo. Together with my colleagues at the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority (Badan Pelaksana Otorita Labuan Bajo Flores), we rolled up our sleeves, grabbed trash bags, and got to work.

Why Clean Tourism Matters

Labuan Bajo is often called the Super Premium Tourism Destination of Indonesia—and I couldn’t agree more. Tourists come here not only to see Komodo dragons or sail between islands, but also to experience a pristine environment. But let’s be honest: keeping it that way takes effort.

That’s where GWB comes in. Starting this month, every Friday until December 2025, the LBFTA team will be on the ground cleaning tourist spots in and around Labuan Bajo. The goal? To remind ourselves and everyone else that sustainability starts with cleanliness.

Total Trash Collected

yeah, we managed to collect:

  • 188.5 kg of residual waste
  • 18.5 kg of bottles and glass

That’s a total of 207 kilograms of waste removed from the Binongko Beach.

And we’re not stopping there. With help from the West Manggarai Environmental Department, all the collected waste was transported to the Warloka Final Processing Site (Tempat Pemrosesan Akhir/TPA) for proper disposal.

A Shared Responsibility

As our Acting President Director, Pak Dwi Marhen Yono, said that day:

“Labuan Bajo is the home of Indonesian tourism that we must protect together. The GWB is our concrete step to ensure the destination remains sustainable, comfortable, and worthy of being visited by tourists from around the world.”

This movement isn’t just for us internally at LBFTA. We hope it inspires the community and tourism stakeholders—from boat operators to hotel associations—to also take part. Because protecting Labuan Bajo isn’t a solo mission; it’s teamwork.
