Komodo Basketball Community, More than a Game!

Labuan Bajo, October 09, 2025 – I wrote this article, special for our sports community in Labuan Bajo, one and only, The Komodo Basketball Community (KBC).

So What is KBC?

The Komodo Basketball Community (KBC) or Komodo Basketball is a basketball community in Labuan Bajo open to all ages and backgrounds. Komodo Basketball provides a positive space for playing, learning, and growing together through the sport of basketball. Precisely, Komodo Basketball was founded in 2018. At that time, our community had 7 members only, and now we have total, 123 members, with active member around 70+ members.

KBC isn’t just about playing basketball. It’s about bringing people together, keeping the youth active and creative, and showing that sports can grow hand-in-hand with tourism and community development.

The Vision:

To be an active, inclusive basketball community that has a positive impact on the development of sports and tourism in Labuan Bajo.

The Mission:

• Accommodating basketball enthusiasts of all ages.
• Providing regular activities such as practice, fun games, and basic training.
• Integrating sports with local tourism potential (sports tourism).
• Building networks with regional and national basketball communities

Inspiring Encounters

KBC has had some amazing moments on and off the court.
In 2024, Richard “Insane” — Indonesia’s streetball legend — dropped by Labuan Bajo and had a fun game with Komodo Basketball. His visit brought energy and inspiration to everyone on the court, proving that basketball truly connects people across cities and generations.

Not long after, on May 18, 2025, Indonesia’s national basketball team coach, Coach Rifki Antolyo, also spent time with Komodo Basketball. We had an insightful discussion with Coach Rifki about KBC’s history, values, and long-term vision — emphasizing that even local sports movements like this have the power to shape the future of basketball in Indonesia.

Opinion

Even though Komodo Basketball is a small community; we realize, not so many people play basketball in Labuan Bajo or Flores. But as time went on, we realized this community has a vision to create a positive impact for the people and the city. I believe Komodo Basketball could be more than just a place to play; it’s a place to grow. Komodo Basketball will inspire young people to stay active, disciplined, and creative. And we want Labuan Bajo to be known not only for its natural beauty (tourism) but also for its impactful sports community.
